The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5995786 is a 3/8-inch diameter extra length high-speed steel drill bit engineered for deep-hole drilling applications in metal fabrication, machining, and industrial maintenance work. The 135-degree split-point tip is web-thinned and self-centering, eliminating the need for a center punch on most materials and reducing walking on entry. A parabolic flute profile improves chip evacuation over long drilling depths. The bit runs in the right-hand cutting direction and carries an uncoated finish suitable for use with cutting fluid. At 8 inches overall length with a 6-inch flute, this bit reaches where standard-length drill bits cannot.
This bit is suited for machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool-and-die professionals drilling through thick stock, structural material, or stacked workpieces. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 3/8 inch in diameter with a 2-inch shank length, making it compatible with standard drill chucks and collet holders found on drill presses, milling machines, and hand-held power drills. The 10xD flute-to-diameter ratio and parallel web configuration keep the tool stable through deep passes.
Rated for use with aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, copper, graphite, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, stainless steel, steel, and cermet workpieces. Meets ANSI standards. Classified as a high-performance grade drill bit in Series QC0860P.
Install in a properly sized drill chuck or collet and verify the shank is fully seated and secured before operation. Power down the machine and lock out the spindle before changing bits. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve hole finish, particularly in steel and stainless steel. Inspect the cutting edges and split-point for wear before each use; a chipped or dull tip will increase thrust requirements and risk workpiece damage.
