The POTTER ELECTRIC SIGNAL CO. US RTS-C is a room temperature switch configured as a single-pole, single-throw (SPST) normally closed (N.C.) contact device. It is designed for use in fire alarm and notification systems where temperature monitoring is required to trigger or supervise a circuit. When the ambient room temperature rises beyond the switch setpoint, the normally closed contact opens, interrupting the supervised circuit and signaling the control panel. Licensed fire alarm technicians and low-voltage system installers are the typical trades handling this device.
The RTS-C is applied in commercial and light industrial settings as a notification accessory within fire alarm systems. It is mounted in areas where heat detection or temperature-based circuit supervision is required, such as mechanical rooms, server rooms, or other spaces where elevated temperatures indicate an abnormal condition. The device integrates into the notification or initiating circuit of a compatible fire alarm control panel.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation component for room temperature supervision circuits in fire alarm and notification accessory applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed fire alarm technician or low-voltage electrician in accordance with NFPA 72 and applicable local codes. De-energize the fire alarm control panel circuit before wiring the switch to avoid false alarms or panel faults. Verify the contact rating of the RTS-C is compatible with the supervised circuit voltage and current before completing the installation. Do not overtighten terminal connections, and confirm proper supervision of the circuit after installation.
