The PARKER 23R20S is a string-wound sediment cartridge filter designed for potable water and general plumbing filtration systems. Wound from FDA-grade cotton over a stainless steel core, it captures particulate down to 5 microns — effective against sand, silt, rust, and scale debris. The cartridge measures 2.5 inches in outside diameter and 20 inches in length, fitting standard 20-inch big-blue and slim-line filter housings. It weighs 6.4 pounds. Plumbers and water treatment technicians install this filter in residential and light commercial supply lines where consistent sediment control is required upstream of softeners, RO systems, or other point-of-entry equipment.
The 23R20S is suited for residential and light commercial cold- and hot-water supply applications where inlet sediment loads are moderate to heavy. The cotton string-wound construction provides graduated depth filtration, meaning larger particles are captured near the outer layers while finer particles are trapped closer to the core. This extends service life compared to surface-only filter media. The stainless steel core adds structural integrity, preventing collapse under normal operating pressure. Applications include whole-house pre-filtration, irrigation supply lines, and booster pump inlet protection.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement cartridge for standard 20-inch plumbing filter housings accepting 2.5-inch outside diameter string-wound cartridges.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or qualified water treatment technician. Shut off the supply water and depressurize the filter housing before removing the spent cartridge. Follow local plumbing codes, including IPC requirements, for potable water filtration installations. Do not exceed the rated maximum working temperature of 250 degrees F, and inspect the housing O-ring for wear or damage each time the cartridge is replaced.
