The PANDUIT SBC500-1 is a copper split bolt connector designed for joining and tapping electrical conductors in power distribution and grounding applications. Split bolt connectors provide a reliable mechanical connection between two conductors by clamping them together under bolt pressure, eliminating the need for solder or crimping tools. This connector is rated for use with conductors ranging from 300 to 500 MCM, making it appropriate for large-conductor work in commercial, industrial, and utility electrical installations. Licensed electricians and journeyman wiremen are the primary installers of this type of hardware accessory.
Split bolt connectors in the 300 to 500 MCM range are commonly used in service entrance work, feeder splices, and grounding electrode conductor terminations. They are suited for installations where two large copper conductors must be joined inline or where a tap conductor must be added to a main run. This connector is sold as an individual piece, one unit per package, and is appropriate for use in conduit, junction boxes, and direct-burial applications when properly taped and insulated.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard hardware connector for use with copper conductors in the 300 to 500 MCM range in residential service entrance, commercial feeder, and industrial power distribution applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with applicable NEC requirements for conductor splicing and tapping. De-energize the circuit and verify absence of voltage before making any connections. Tighten the bolt to the connector manufacturer's standard practice using an appropriate wrench, then insulate the completed connection with listed electrical tape or a pre-insulated split bolt cover rated for the voltage of the circuit. Do not use this connector to join dissimilar metals unless the connector is listed for that application.
