The OSG VGM5-0218 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill engineered for high-performance milling in demanding metalworking applications. It features a 0.75 inch diameter, a 0.02 inch corner radius, and five flutes with a right-hand spiral and right-hand cutting direction. The tool carries an EXO coating and a high-helix geometry that supports both roughing and finishing passes in a single setup. Variable index spacing reduces chatter and improves surface finish at higher feed rates. At 4 inches overall length with a 1.5 inch length of cut, this is a short-series tool suited for rigid setups where tool deflection must be minimized. It is centercutting and accepts standard straight-cylindrical toolholders with a 0.75 inch shank diameter.
This end mill is designed for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Its EXO coating provides thermal resistance and lubricity, extending tool life in interrupted cuts and high-speed finishing passes. The short-series length and normal pitch make it well-suited for production environments where consistent dimensional results across multiple parts are required. It is a single-end tool, so indexing is not applicable — the tool is replaced when worn. Typical applications include profile milling, slotting, and contouring in CNC machining centers using a collet chuck or end mill holder.
Designed for use with standard straight-cylindrical toolholders accepting a 0.75 inch shank diameter, including collet chucks and end mill holders common to CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials (ISO material codes P, M, K, S, H).
Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the toolholder bore and shank are clean and free of chips before seating the tool. Confirm shank engagement depth meets the toolholder manufacturer minimum before tightening. Reference the machine tool and toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for pull-stud and retention hardware — do not use generic values. Verify spindle runout with a test indicator before committing to finish cuts, as runout beyond the mill diameter tolerance will degrade surface finish and accelerate flute wear.
