The OSG VGM5-0159 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill from OSG's VGM5 series, designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining applications. This single-end tool features a 1/2 inch diameter, a 0.12 inch corner radius, and five flutes arranged in a variable index configuration for reduced harmonic vibration during cuts. The EXO coating provides elevated hardness and heat resistance suited for aggressive feeds and speeds. With a long-reach 2 inch length of cut and a 4 inch overall length, this end mill targets shops running steel, stainless, cast iron, titanium, superalloys, and hard materials where tool life and surface finish both matter.
The VGM5-0159 is suited for roughing and finishing operations on ferrous and exotic alloy workpieces in CNC milling environments. Its high helix geometry, right-hand cutting direction, and right-hand flute spiral make it a capable choice for side milling, slotting, and profiling passes in horizontal or vertical machining centers. The straight-cylindrical 1/2 inch shank seats directly into standard end mill holders and collet chucks. The centercutting capability also allows limited plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole.
Designed for use with standard end mill toolholders accepting a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials (ISO material codes P, M, K, S, H).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before loading or removing the tool. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the minimum insertion depth recommended by the toolholder manufacturer before tightening. Verify runout with a dial indicator after clamping, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on multi-flute carbide tools.
