The OSG VGM5-0135 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining environments. Built on OSG's VGM5 series platform, this single-end tool features a 0.5-inch mill diameter, a 0.06-inch corner radius, and five flutes with a variable index geometry that reduces harmonic chatter during aggressive cuts. The EXO coating provides enhanced heat and wear resistance, extending tool life when cutting ferrous and hard materials. At 3 inches overall length with a 1.25-inch length of cut, this end mill suits a range of short-reach milling operations where rigidity and surface finish both matter.
This end mill is suited for roughing and finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. The right-hand cutting direction and right-hand spiral flute configuration make it compatible with standard CNC machining centers using straight-cylindrical toolholders. The 0.5-inch shank diameter fits common ER and side-lock holders. The short-length classification keeps deflection low in high-feed or high-depth-of-cut applications where tool rigidity is critical. Centercutting capability allows direct plunge entry when required by the operation.
Designed for use with standard straight-cylindrical toolholders on CNC machining centers. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials (ISO material codes P, M, K, S, H).
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer is disabled before mounting or removing the end mill. Seat the 0.5-inch shank fully into the toolholder to the minimum insertion depth recommended by the holder manufacturer, and verify runout with a dial indicator before commencing the cut. Do not exceed the tool's rated length of cut when programming axial depth of cut.
