The OSG HP255-2087 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous materials. It measures 5.3 mm in diameter with an overall length of 82 mm and a flute length of 44 mm. The 140-degree point angle and R-thinned web promote self-centering entry and reduce thrust when drilling into steel, alloy steel, and cast iron. WD1 coating adds surface hardness and wear resistance for extended tool life in demanding production environments. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks and collet holders. This bit is installed and used by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance professionals working with ferrous stock.
The HP255-2087 is suited for blind hole drilling, cross-hole drilling, and general-purpose drilling in steel and cast iron workpieces. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports chip evacuation in moderate-depth holes. Coolant-through capability makes it compatible with machining centers and CNC drill heads equipped with through-spindle coolant systems, improving chip flushing and heat management at the cutting edge. It is equally usable in manual drill presses where flood or mist coolant is applied externally.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use tooling in standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 6 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials are steel, alloy steel, and cast iron (ISO material codes P and K).
Solid carbide drills should be installed in a rigid, well-balanced chuck or precision collet holder to minimize runout. Ensure the spindle and workpiece are secured before engaging the cut. Carbide is brittle — avoid interrupted cuts or side loads that exceed the tool design. When using coolant-through capability, confirm system pressure is within the machine spindle specification before operation.
