The OSG HP253-4016 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in steel and cast iron. Built from solid carbide and finished with OSG's proprietary EgiAs multi-layer coating, this bit delivers extended tool life and heat resistance in demanding production environments. The 140-degree point angle with R-thinned web geometry reduces thrust force and improves centering at entry. With a 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and coolant-through capability, it is suited for CNC machining centers and automated drilling operations where consistent hole quality and chip evacuation are critical. Licensed machinists and tooling specialists are the primary users.
This drill bit is designed for screw machine length drilling applications in ferrous materials including steel and cast iron. The straight cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks and collet holders. Its compact screw machine length profile makes it well suited for short-reach applications on CNC lathes, machining centers, and screw machines where rigidity and minimal overhang are priorities. The coolant-through design supports internal coolant delivery for deep-hole chip flushing and thermal management at higher feed rates and spindle speeds.
Designed for use in steel and cast iron workpieces. The 12.00 mm straight cylindrical shank is compatible with standard ER collet systems and drill chucks accepting shank diameters in that range. Part of the OSG HP253 series, covering a drill bit size range of 9.50 to 11.00 mm, with this bit cutting at 10.20 mm diameter.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or chuck is in a safe state before loading or removing the bit. Verify collet or chuck runout is within acceptable tolerance before operation, as excess runout accelerates carbide wear. When using the coolant-through feature, confirm that coolant pressure and flow rate are within the machine tool's specified range before initiating a cycle.
