The OSG HP243-1811 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron. It measures 0.1811 inches (4.60 mm) in diameter with an overall length of 66.00 mm and a flute length of 24.00 mm, making it a compact stub-style bit well suited to close-tolerance hole production. The 140-degree split point geometry reduces walking and thrust force at entry. A coated finish extends tool life in abrasive ferrous materials. This bit is installed and used by machinists, toolroom technicians, and manufacturing maintenance trades working on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes.
The HP243-1811 belongs to OSG's HP243 series, which targets high-performance drilling in ferrous workpiece materials. Its screw machine length body provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, reducing deflection in short-hole applications. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports chip evacuation without sacrificing stiffness. Primary target materials are steel, alloy steel, and cast iron — common in automotive, die and mold, and general metalworking production environments. The straight cylindrical shank with a 6.00 mm diameter seats cleanly in standard drill chucks and collet holders.
Designed for drilling steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces. Compatible with standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting a 6.00 mm straight cylindrical shank. Fits CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes set up for screw machine length tooling in the 0.1500 to 0.2000 inch diameter range.
Solid carbide tooling requires a rigid, low-runout toolholder — confirm shank seating and collet condition before use, as excessive runout accelerates edge chipping. Power down the machine and lock out all energy sources before changing tooling. Do not use this bit in hand-held drill applications; screw machine length carbide bits require the rigidity of a machine spindle. Follow the machine manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for carbide tooling in the target workpiece material.
