The OSG 8723100 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill designed for high-performance drilling in steel and cast iron. It features a 140-degree R-thinned point geometry that reduces entry force and improves centering accuracy. The proprietary EgiAs multi-layer coating extends tool life by increasing surface hardness and reducing heat buildup at the cutting edge. With a 3-flute configuration and a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio, this drill delivers efficient chip evacuation in deep-hole applications. Coolant-through capability allows internal coolant delivery directly to the cutting zone, making it well suited for high-speed CNC machining centers where heat and chip management are critical.
This drill is intended for production and job-shop environments where consistent hole quality in ferrous materials is required. It is used in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and multi-axis machining applications targeting steel, cast iron, and similar workpiece materials. The straight cylindrical shank with a 12 mm diameter accommodates standard ER and hydraulic toolholders. It is installed and run by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and CNC operators working in metalworking, fabrication, and manufacturing settings.
Designed as an OEM-specification solid carbide jobber drill for use in standard straight-shank toolholders; primary workpiece materials are steel and cast iron as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the machine spindle and toolholder are fully powered down and de-energized before installing or removing the drill. Seat the straight cylindrical shank fully and concentrically in the toolholder to minimize runout. When using coolant-through capability, verify that coolant pressure and flow rate are within the machine and toolholder specifications before beginning a cutting cycle.
