The OSG 8722800 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous and hardened materials. It features an 8.00 mm diameter, a 140-degree split point with R-thinned web geometry, and three spiral flutes that promote chip evacuation and reduce cutting forces. The EgiAs coating improves wear resistance and thermal stability, extending tool life in demanding applications. Coolant-through capability delivers cutting fluid directly to the cutting edge, making this drill well suited for deep-hole work and interrupted cuts in production environments. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and CNC operators are the primary users.
This drill is intended for drilling, self-centering, and cross-hole operations in steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hardened steel, corresponding to ISO material groups P, M, K, and H. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio and tapered web configuration make it effective in both manual and CNC machining setups where dimensional accuracy and hole quality are critical. Its straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collet holders without modification.
Designed for use in steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hardened steel workpieces. Straight-cylindrical shank diameter of 8.00 mm fits standard drill chucks and ER collet systems accepting that shank size. Part of OSG Series 6610.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with CNC or manual drilling equipment. Confirm that the machine spindle and tool holder are clean and properly torqued before use. Activate coolant-through supply before the drill contacts the workpiece to prevent thermal shock to the carbide. Inspect the cutting edge for chipping before each use, as solid carbide tools are brittle and should not be dropped or used in severely interrupted cuts beyond their design rating.
