The OSG 8722640 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding metalworking applications. It measures 6.40 mm in diameter with a 140-degree point angle and features an EgiAs coating for extended tool life and reduced friction. The R-thinned web geometry promotes self-centering entry and reduces thrust load. At 109.00 mm overall length with a 52.00 mm flute length, this is a compact, rigid drill suited for precision hole-making. It ships with a straight-cylindrical shank of 8.00 mm diameter. Licensed machinists and CNC setup technicians are the primary installers of this tool.
The 8722640 is built for production drilling in steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hardened steel. Its three-flute design and 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio support efficient chip evacuation in deep holes. Coolant-through capability makes it compatible with through-spindle coolant systems, improving performance in high-speed or high-feed operations. The Series 6610 designation places this drill in OSG's high-performance carbide drill family. Typical applications include through-hole drilling, self-centering operations, and cross-hole intersecting passages in machined components.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and drill presses equipped with through-spindle coolant. Suitable for primary workpiece material codes P, M, K, and H, covering steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hardened steel. Fits standard 8.00 mm straight-shank toolholders and collet chucks. Part of the OSG Series 6610 high-performance carbide drill family.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and power is off before loading or removing the drill. Verify the collet or chuck is clean and correctly sized for the 8.00 mm shank before clamping. Confirm through-spindle coolant pressure and flow rate are set within the machine tool manufacturer's recommended range before beginning the cut.
