The OSG 8706400 is a solid carbide extra length drill bit designed for high-precision drilling in demanding industrial and metalworking applications. Built to Series 6540 specifications, this bit measures 4.00 mm (0.1575 inches) in diameter with an overall length of 140 mm and a flute length of 90 mm, giving it a 15xD flute-to-diameter ratio suited for deep-hole drilling. The 140-degree drill point angle and X-Thinned web geometry reduce thrust force and improve chip evacuation. The EgiAs coating enhances surface hardness and wear resistance, extending tool life in abrasive and hard materials. Coolant-through capability supports high-speed operations where heat management is critical.
This drill bit is used in precision machining environments where extended reach and tight tolerances are required. Typical applications include deep-hole drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly in standard drill chucks and collet systems without adapters. Right-hand cutting direction makes it compatible with conventional CNC machining centers, drill presses, and multi-axis lathes. It is installed and operated by machinists and CNC technicians in job shops, aerospace component manufacturing, and general metalworking facilities.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and production drill bit for use in standard straight-cylindrical collet chucks and drill chucks accepting 4.00 mm shank diameters in CNC and manual drilling applications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or removing the bit. Seat the straight-cylindrical shank fully into the collet or chuck and verify runout before beginning a cutting cycle. When using coolant-through capability, confirm coolant pressure and flow rate are within the machine tool specifications before operation.
