The OSG 8704690 is a taper length, solid carbide drill bit designed for precision drilling in demanding machining applications. Built from solid carbide, it delivers the rigidity and wear resistance needed when drilling hard or abrasive materials. The 140-degree split point angle reduces thrust and enables accurate self-starting without a center punch. With an EgiAs coating finish and X-thinned web, this bit maintains cutting efficiency through deep-hole operations. At an 8xD flute-length-to-diameter ratio and with coolant-through capability, it handles chip evacuation effectively in production drilling environments. Machinists and CNC operators working in job shops, aerospace, or general metalworking are the primary installers.
The OSG 8704690 is suited for taper length drilling operations where extended reach and straight-shank mounting are required. The 0.2717-inch (6.90 mm) diameter and 8.00 mm straight shank make it compatible with standard drill chucks and collet holders on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual mills. Right-hand cutting direction and spiral flute geometry support conventional clockwise spindle rotation. The EgiAs coating is engineered to reduce friction and extend tool life in steel and alloy workpieces.
Designed as a taper length replacement drill bit for use in standard straight-shank drill chucks and collet systems on CNC machining centers and conventional drilling equipment. Part of OSG Series 6520.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and machine power isolated. Ensure the shank is fully seated and clamped to the correct torque specification for the chuck or collet system in use per the machine tool manufacturer guidelines. Verify spindle speed and feed rate settings are appropriate for the workpiece material before engaging the cut. Activate coolant-through flow before the drill contacts the workpiece when using internal coolant.
