The OSG 8704480 is a taper length twist drill bit engineered for precision hole-making in demanding machining applications. Built from solid carbide, this bit delivers the rigidity and wear resistance required for drilling hard materials at extended depths. The 140-degree split point reduces walking and cutting force at entry, while the EgiAs coating provides additional surface hardness and heat resistance. At an 8xD flute-length-to-diameter ratio, this tool is suited for deeper hole applications where a jobber-length bit falls short. It is installed and run by machinists and tool-room technicians on CNC machining centers and manual drilling equipment.
This drill bit is designed for use in precision machining environments, including aerospace, die and mold, and general metalworking shops. The 0.1890-inch (4.80 mm) diameter and straight shank make it compatible with standard drill chucks and collet systems sized for a 6.00 mm shank. Coolant-through capability supports high-speed, deep-hole drilling operations where chip evacuation and heat control are critical. The Series 6520 designation places this bit within OSG's solid carbide taper length drill lineup.
Designed for use with standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 6.00 mm straight shank; fits CNC machining centers and manual drilling equipment configured for taper length solid carbide drills in the 0.1890-inch diameter range.
This tool should be installed by qualified machinists familiar with carbide tooling requirements. Secure the straight shank fully in a collet or chuck rated for the shank diameter before operation. Carbide is brittle — avoid side-loading, interrupted cuts without appropriate setup, or over-torquing the holder. When using the coolant-through feature, verify that the machine spindle and toolholder are configured to deliver coolant through the tool centerline at the correct pressure.
