The OSG 8702870 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding ferrous materials. It features a 140-degree split point geometry with X-thinned web for reduced thrust and cleaner entry, and is finished with OSG EgiAs multi-layer coating to extend tool life under heat and abrasion. The bit measures 8.70 mm (0.3425 inches) in diameter with a 128.00 mm (5.04 inches) overall length and a 70.00 mm (2.76 inches) flute length. Coolant-through capability supports high-speed production drilling where chip evacuation and thermal control are critical. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users of this drill.
This drill is suited for machining steel, cast iron, and hardened materials in both job shop and production environments. The straight cylindrical shank with a 10 mm shank diameter fits standard drill chucks and collet holders. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio makes it appropriate for moderate-depth holes in a jobber-length setup. It is well-matched to CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual knee mills where rigid tool holding and through-spindle or external coolant delivery are available.
Designed as a high-performance OEM-style jobber drill for use in steel, cast iron, and hardened material applications within the 8.00 mm to 9.00 mm drill diameter range (0.3000 to 0.3500 decimal inch range).
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians familiar with carbide tooling handling and machine setup. Secure the straight shank fully in a collet, drill chuck, or hydraulic holder rated for the shank diameter before operation. Carbide is brittle - avoid side loads, interrupted cuts without proper feeds and speeds, and impact handling that can chip the cutting edges. Verify coolant delivery is active before engaging the workpiece when using the through-coolant feature.
