The OSG 8693170 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding metalworking applications. It features an 11.7 mm diameter with a 140-degree split point angle and an R-thinned web for improved self-centering and reduced thrust. The EgiAs coating enhances wear resistance and heat dissipation, making this bit well suited for cutting steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloys. The overall length is 156 mm with a 94 mm flute length, a 12 mm straight-cylindrical shank, and a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio. It is intended for use by machinists and toolroom technicians requiring consistent, tight-tolerance results in production environments.
The OSG 8693170 is rated for primary workpiece material codes P, K, S, and H, covering a broad range of ferrous and exotic alloys. It is built for blind hole drilling, cross hole drilling, through drilling, and self-centering applications. The coolant-through design supports internal coolant delivery, which is critical when running this bit at elevated speeds in steel and titanium. The two-flute spiral configuration with a tapered web and regular spiral type promotes efficient chip evacuation in both manual and CNC setups.
Designed for use in steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloy workpieces. Suitable for blind hole, cross hole, standard drilling, and self-centering operations across OSG Series 6510 tooling setups in CNC machining centers and drill presses with appropriate collet or chuck toolholding for a 12 mm straight-cylindrical shank.
This tool should be installed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with carbide tooling requirements. Secure the 12 mm straight-cylindrical shank in a compatible collet or drill chuck rated for the intended spindle speed before operation. When using the coolant-through feature, confirm that the machine spindle and toolholder support internal coolant delivery at the required pressure. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use, as carbide tooling is brittle and should not be forced into interrupted cuts without verifying the setup.
