Product Description

The OSG 8691700 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding production environments. It features a 17.00 mm (0.6693 inch) diameter with a 140-degree drill point angle optimized for harder workpiece materials. The two-flute spiral design with R-thinned web and tapered web configuration reduces cutting forces and improves chip evacuation. Coolant-through capability supports extended tool life in high-cycle or deep-hole applications. This bit is part of the OSG Series 6500 line, built for machinists and toolroom technicians running CNC or manual drilling operations on tough materials.

The 8691700 is rated for use on steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloys, making it well suited for aerospace, automotive, and general metalworking applications. The screw machine length (stub) profile provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, which is an advantage when drilling in tight fixtures or on close-tolerance work. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collet-style toolholders. At an overall length of 150.00 mm with an 85.00 mm flute length, it covers a 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio appropriate for shallow to mid-depth holes.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide construction for rigidity and wear resistance in ferrous and titanium workpieces
  • 140-degree split-point geometry with R-thinned web reduces thrust force and improves self-centering
  • Coolant-through design supports internal coolant delivery for heat management in high-feed applications
  • Series 6500 high-performance designation with coated finish for extended tool life
  • Right-hand cut, regular spiral flute for reliable chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole drilling
  • Diameter tolerance of +0 to -0.027 mm for close-tolerance hole production

Compatibility

Designed for drilling steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloys. Fits standard drill chucks and collet toolholders accepting a 17.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Part of OSG Series 6500.

Installation Notes

Installation and use of this tool should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with carbide cutting tools. Ensure the machine spindle and toolholder are clean and properly tightened before operation. Solid carbide tooling is brittle and should not be subjected to lateral shock or used in machines with excessive spindle runout. When using coolant-through capability, confirm the machine spindle supports internal coolant delivery at the appropriate pressure for the application.
