The OSG 8691370 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding metalworking applications. It measures 0.5394 inches (13.70 mm) in diameter with a 140-degree split point and features two spiral flutes with R-thinned web geometry for improved chip evacuation and reduced thrust. The straight cylindrical shank measures 14.00 mm in diameter. At 134.00 mm overall length, the screw machine format provides added rigidity over jobber-length drills, making it well suited for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes where shorter overhang reduces deflection. Coolant-through capability supports high-feed-rate operations in production environments.
The 8691370 is engineered for cutting steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloys. Its coated solid carbide construction and 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio make it a practical choice for production shops running high-volume hole operations in ferrous and hard-to-machine materials. It is sized within the 0.5000 to 0.6000 inch decimal inch range, Series 6500, and is packaged as a single unit. Licensed machinists, tool and die makers, and CNC operators are the typical end users.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct selection within the OSG Series 6500 product line for screw machine length carbide drill applications in the 0.5000 to 0.6000 inch diameter range.
Installation is performed by machinists and CNC operators in machine shop environments. Secure the straight cylindrical shank firmly in a compatible drill chuck or collet before operation, and verify that spindle runout is within acceptable tolerances to avoid premature tool wear. Power down and de-energize all equipment before changing tooling. Coolant-through setups should have the coolant circuit confirmed and connected prior to running at production feed rates.
