The OSG 8691180 is a screw machine length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in demanding industrial and machining applications. Built from solid carbide with a coated finish, it delivers superior wear resistance and heat tolerance compared to high-speed steel alternatives. The bit features a 140-degree drill point angle optimized for fast, accurate penetration into hard and abrasive materials. At 11.80 mm (0.4646 inches) in diameter with an overall length of 120.00 mm (approximately 4.72 inches) and a flute length of 59.00 mm (approximately 2.32 inches), this Series 6500 bit is designed for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and production environments where tight tolerances and consistent performance are required.
This drill bit is suited for production machining operations in metalworking shops, fabrication facilities, and toolrooms. The screw machine length design provides added rigidity over jobber-length bits, making it well suited for drilling in machine setups where runout and deflection must be minimized. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports chip evacuation in short-hole drilling cycles. The straight-cylindrical shank ensures secure seating in standard drill chucks and collet holders. Primary workpiece materials include steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloy.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and production drilling setups where a straight-cylindrical shank screw machine length carbide drill bit in the 0.4500 to 0.5000 inch (11.00 to 13.50 mm) diameter range is required. Compatible with workpiece materials including steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloy.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel familiar with carbide tooling. Before installing or changing tooling, power down the machine and confirm the spindle has come to a full stop. Ensure the shank is clean and the chuck or collet holder is properly sized for the 12.00 mm shank diameter before tightening. Carbide tooling is brittle and should not be subjected to interrupted cuts, side loads, or impact without confirming the setup is appropriate for carbide use.
