The OSG 8690520 is a screw machine length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in demanding metalworking applications. Built from solid carbide with a coated finish, this bit measures 5.20 mm (0.2047 inches) in diameter and features a 140-degree drill point angle optimized for reduced thrust and self-centering on hard materials. The two-flute spiral design with R-thinned web and tapered web configuration improves chip evacuation and cutting efficiency. At 82.00 mm (3.23 inches) overall length with a 26.00 mm (1.02 inches) flute length, it fits standard screw machine length setups. Coolant-through capability makes it suitable for production environments where heat management is critical. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary installers.
This drill bit is rated for use in steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloy workpieces. The screw machine length profile — shorter than jobber length — provides added rigidity and reduced deflection in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and automatic screw machines. It is suited for both short-run toolroom work and higher-volume production runs where consistent hole tolerance and tool life matter. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports drilling to moderate depths without packing chips.
Designed for use in steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloy workpieces. Part of OSG Series 6500, covering the 0.2000 to 0.2500 inch (5.00 to 6.50 mm) diameter range in screw machine length geometry.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom professionals familiar with carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in the collet or drill chuck before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits, as carbide is brittle and sensitive to side loading. Always engage coolant flow before the bit contacts the workpiece when using the through-coolant feature. Do not use this bit in hammer or impact-style drilling applications.
