The OSG 8690280 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding industrial and machining applications. Built to Series 6500 standards, this right-hand cut bit features a 140-degree split point angle with R-thinned web geometry that reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation at entry. The 2.80 mm (0.1102 inch) diameter is held to a tight tolerance of +0 to -0.014 mm, making it suitable for precision hole work. Two spiral flutes and a tapered web configuration promote consistent chip flow. Coolant-through capability supports extended tool life in high-speed setups. Licensed machinists, CNC operators, and tool-and-die professionals install and run this bit.
This drill bit is intended for use on steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloys. Its screw machine length profile — shorter than a jobber-length bit — delivers added rigidity for precision drilling in tight setups, turret lathes, screw machines, and CNC machining centers. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and straight-cylindrical shank with a 3.00 mm shank diameter support straightforward chuck mounting without adapter sleeves in most standard collets and chucks sized for that shank.
Designed for use on steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloys. The 3.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank fits standard collets, chucks, and toolholders dimensioned for that shank diameter. Part of the OSG Series 6500 high-performance solid carbide drill line.
Installation and setup should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC technicians familiar with cutting tool mounting procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the bit from the toolholder or chuck. Verify coolant lines are clear and flow rate is appropriate for the material and feed rate before running a cycle. Do not exceed the toolholder's rated runout tolerance, as carbide bits are sensitive to lateral loading caused by excessive runout.
