The OSG 8684450 is a taper length, solid carbide drill bit designed for precision drilling in demanding industrial and machining applications. Built to Series 5220 standards, it features a 140-degree split point, a WXL coating for extended tool life and reduced heat buildup, and coolant-through capability for chip evacuation in deep-hole drilling operations. The 4.5 mm diameter with an 8xD flute-to-diameter ratio makes it well suited for applications requiring accurate, clean holes in hard or abrasive materials. Machinists and toolroom professionals select this drill for CNC and manual drilling setups where dimensional accuracy and tool durability are critical.
This drill bit is used in production machining, tool and die work, and precision fabrication environments. Its straight cylindrical shank provides secure, concentric seating in standard drill chucks and collet holders. The spiral flute geometry with right-hand cut is appropriate for a wide range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials. The taper length body gives greater reach than a jobber-length drill while maintaining rigidity for accurate hole placement.
Designed as an OEM-style solid carbide drill bit for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual machines equipped with standard straight-shank toolholding capable of accepting a 6 mm shank diameter.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with carbide tooling requirements. Ensure the machine spindle and toolholder are clean and free of runout before seating the shank. Solid carbide drills are brittle compared to high-speed steel and should not be subjected to side loads or interrupted cuts without confirming application suitability. Always follow machine tool manufacturer guidelines for spindle speeds, feed rates, and coolant pressure when using coolant-through tooling.
