The OSG 8672420 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous materials. It measures 4.2 mm in diameter with an overall length of 74 mm and a flute length of 36 mm. The 140-degree point angle with R-thinned web promotes self-centering and reduces thrust on entry. An EgiAs coating provides wear resistance and thermal protection during demanding cutting operations. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 6 mm in diameter, fitting standard collet chucks and drill chucks used in CNC machining centers and production drilling equipment. Machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary users of this bit.
This bit is engineered for drilling blind holes, cross holes, and through holes in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports chip evacuation in moderate-depth applications without coolant-through capability. It is suited to production environments where consistent hole quality and diameter tolerance are critical. Diameter tolerance is held to +0 to -0.018 mm, making it appropriate for close-tolerance hole preparation ahead of reaming or tapping operations.
Designed for use in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron applications corresponding to material codes P, K, and H. Suitable for CNC machining centers and production drilling equipment accepting a 6 mm straight-cylindrical shank. No coolant-through capability; intended for external or flood coolant setups.
Install and removal of cutting tools should be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Secure the shank firmly in a properly sized collet or drill chuck before operation. Inspect the cutting edges and coating for chips or wear before each use, as carbide tooling is brittle and can fracture if run in a damaged state. Follow the tool manufacturer and machine builder recommendations for feed rate and spindle speed based on workpiece material hardness.
