The OSG 8671200 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous and hard materials. It measures 0.4724 inches (12.00 mm) in diameter with an overall length of 102.00 mm (approximately 4.02 inches) and a flute length of 55.00 mm (approximately 2.17 inches). The 140-degree split point geometry reduces walking and entry force on hard materials. An R-thinned web and tapered web configuration improve chip evacuation and reduce thrust load. This bit is suited for production drilling environments where consistent hole quality and tool life are priorities. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die workers, and CNC operators are the typical end users.
The OSG 8671200 is built for drilling steel, alloy steel, and cast iron in screw machine, CNC lathe, or drill press applications. The screw machine length designation means a shorter, more rigid body compared to jobber-length bits, making it well suited for close-tolerance work in tight setups. The 2xD flute-to-diameter ratio and regular spiral flute geometry support chip clearing in through-hole and shallow blind-hole operations on production runs. The straight-cylindrical shank accepts standard drill chucks and collet holders without modification.

Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators familiar with carbide tooling requirements. Carbide is brittle — avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without proper feed rate adjustment, and cross-drilling into existing holes without center support. Confirm spindle runout is within acceptable tolerance before seating the shank, as excessive runout accelerates carbide chipping. Coolant through is not supported on this bit; use flood or mist coolant directed at the cutting zone where the machine setup allows.
