The OSG 8670580 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous materials. It carries a 5.80 mm (0.2283 inch) diameter with a 140-degree split point and an R-thinned web for reduced thrust and improved chip evacuation. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 6.00 mm in diameter, making it compatible with standard drill chucks and collet holders. At an overall length of 66.00 mm (approximately 2.6 inches), this stub-length geometry delivers rigidity and minimized runout in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and automatic screw machines. The coated carbide construction extends tool life in production environments where heat and wear are primary concerns.
This drill bit is intended for use in ferrous metalworking applications including steel, alloy steel, and cast iron. Its screw machine length profile is suited for production drilling where short tool overhang reduces deflection and improves hole location accuracy. This drill bit is installed and operated by qualified machinists or CNC operators. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully and evenly in the chuck or collet to the manufacturer-recommended engagement depth to prevent pullout under load. Verify spindle speed and feed rate are set per the material and diameter being drilled before starting a cut — do not exceed the tool's rated parameters for the workpiece material.
