The OSG 8670440 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron. It measures 4.40 mm in diameter with an overall length of 66 mm (2.5984 inches) and features a 140-degree point angle with R-thinned web geometry for improved chip evacuation and reduced thrust at entry. The EgiAs coating provides enhanced wear resistance and heat management during high-cycle production drilling. With a straight-cylindrical shank of 6 mm diameter, the bit seats securely in standard drill chucks and collet holders used in CNC machining centers and manual drill presses.
This bit is suited for screw machine operations, short-hole drilling, and production environments where tight tolerances and consistent hole quality are required. The stub-length design improves rigidity and reduces deflection, making it appropriate for close-tolerance work in ferrous materials. Machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and CNC operators working with steel and cast iron components will find this drill applicable across general job shop and production machining applications. It carries a flute-to-diameter ratio of 2xD and falls within the 3.50 to 5.00 mm diameter range of the OSG Series 6300 lineup.
Designed for use in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces. Part of the OSG Series 6300 screw machine length drill lineup covering the 3.50 to 5.00 mm diameter range.
Installation and tool changes should be performed with the machine fully powered down and spindle at a complete stop. Secure the shank fully within the chuck or collet to the recommended grip depth before tightening. Verify runout with a dial indicator before production use, as even minor misalignment accelerates wear on carbide tooling. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit, so adequate flood or mist coolant directed at the cutting zone is recommended when drilling ferrous materials at production feeds and speeds.
