The OSG 8666180 is a screw machine length drill bit built for high-performance metal cutting in demanding trade and industrial applications. The bit is machined from solid carbide and features OSG WXL coating for extended tool life and heat resistance under heavy cutting loads. At 11.80 mm (0.4646 inches) in diameter, it runs a 140-degree split point with R-thinned web geometry that reduces thrust force and improves centering on entry. Overall length is 120 mm (4.7244 inches), with a 59 mm flute length and a 12.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Coolant-through design supports high-feed drilling cycles where through-spindle coolant is available.
This bit is designed for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloys. The screw machine length profile makes it well suited for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and production environments where stub-length rigidity is preferred over jobber-length reach. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio keeps chip evacuation manageable in blind and through-hole applications on the listed work materials. Licensed machinists, toolroom technicians, and production drill press operators are the typical end users.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and drill presses with straight-cylindrical shank tool holders accepting a 12.00 mm shank. Rated for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloys. Part of the OSG Series 5200 high-performance carbide drill line.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with carbide tooling. Ensure the spindle and tool holder are clean and free of debris before seating the straight shank. Carbide is brittle — avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without appropriate feed reduction, or improper runout that can cause micro-fractures or premature breakage. Where coolant-through capability is used, confirm coolant pressure and flow rate are appropriate for the spindle before initiating a cutting cycle.
