The OSG 8650550 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance metal cutting in production and general machining environments. Built from coated high speed steel, this bit features a 120-degree faceted point angle with web thinning for reduced thrust and cleaner entry into workpiece material. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 6.00 mm (approximately 0.236 inches) in diameter, making it compatible with standard drill chucks and quick-change tool holders. At 0.2165 inches (5.50 mm) in cutting diameter and 72.00 mm (approximately 2.835 inches) overall length, the stub-style body provides rigidity for accurate hole placement. Typically installed by machinists, tool and die technicians, and maintenance professionals.
The OSG 8650550 is suited for drilling steel, alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces. The screw machine length format provides a shorter, stiffer profile compared to jobber-length bits, making it a preferred choice for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and turret lathes where rigidity and positional accuracy are critical. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and regular spiral flute geometry promote efficient chip evacuation in these materials. This bit does not support coolant-through configurations and is intended for use with external cutting fluid application where required.

Install and remove cutting tools only with the machine fully powered down and spindle at a complete stop. Apply appropriate cutting fluid externally when drilling steel or aluminum alloys to manage heat and extend tool life. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the point geometry is compromised.
