The OSG 86301009 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metalworking and machining environments. With a 0.5-inch cutting diameter and a 1.5-inch length of cut, this tool handles slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in a single-end configuration. The 40-degree helix angle and diamond-like carbon (DLC) finish reduce friction and heat buildup, extending tool life in demanding cutting conditions. Three right-hand flutes with right-hand cut geometry deliver efficient chip evacuation. Centercutting capability allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece. This end mill is a shop-floor tool installed and operated by machinists and CNC programmers in production and job-shop settings.
The OSG 86301009 is suited for milling ferrous and non-ferrous materials where a low-friction coating and aggressive helix angle improve surface finish and reduce tool wear. The 0.5-inch shank diameter fits standard ER collet chucks, end mill holders, and shrink-fit toolholders. The 4-inch overall length provides adequate reach for most standard workpiece setups while maintaining rigidity. Typical applications include contouring, side milling, and plunge cuts in vertical and horizontal machining centers as well as manual knee mills.
Designed to fit standard 0.5-inch ID end mill holders, ER collet chucks, and shrink-fit toolholding systems used in CNC machining centers and manual mills.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a safe, locked-out state. Ensure the shank is fully seated and properly torqued in the toolholder per the toolholder manufacturer specifications before running. Verify runout with a dial indicator after clamping, as excessive runout accelerates tool wear and degrades surface finish. Inspect the cutting edges and DLC coating before each use and replace the tool at the first sign of chipping or coating breakdown.
