The OSG 8623252 is an extra length cobalt drill bit designed for deep-hole drilling in demanding production and toolroom applications. Built from M6K-grade cobalt high-speed steel with a WXL finish, this bit delivers extended tool life in tough ferrous and stainless materials. It features a 120-degree standard point, fast spiral flute geometry, and a right-hand cutting direction. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.2047 inches in diameter, matching the drill diameter for direct chuck holding. At 7.087 inches (180 mm) overall length with a 4.724-inch (120 mm) flute, it reaches depths that standard-length drills cannot. Machinists, tool and die shops, and fabrication professionals are the primary users.
This extra length drill bit suits applications requiring deep-hole penetration in a single pass without step drilling or pilot operations. The fast spiral flute promotes efficient chip evacuation in deeper cuts, reducing heat buildup and recutting. The R-thinned web and tapered web configuration reduce entry thrust force, which is especially useful when drilling work-hardened alloys, stainless steel, carbon steel, and similar materials on CNC machining centers, manual drill presses, and lathes. Coolant-through capability is not included, so external flood or mist coolant is recommended for deep-bore applications.
Designed as an OEM-style production drill for use in standard straight-shank drill chucks and collet holders on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes where a 0.2047-inch diameter extra length cobalt drill is required.
Installation is performed by machinists and toolroom technicians. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank fully into a keyed or keyless chuck, or a matching collet, ensuring adequate gripping length before operation. Power down the spindle and verify zero RPM before bit changes or workpiece repositioning. Apply external flood or mist coolant when drilling deep bores to manage heat, as this bit does not support coolant-through delivery.
