The OSG 8612485 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous metals and hard alloys. Built from powdered metal with a V coating, it handles steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloy in demanding shop and field applications. The 130-degree R-thinned point promotes self-centering entry and reduces thrust on hard materials. At 96 millimeters overall length with a 52-millimeter flute length, it fits standard jobber-length chucks and drill presses. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 6 millimeters in diameter, compatible with conventional drill chucks. Two right-hand spiral flutes with a regular spiral configuration clear chips efficiently during through and blind hole operations.
This bit is suited for blind hole drilling, cross-hole operations, general drilling, and self-centering applications in steel and ferrous alloys. It fits production machining, maintenance and repair, and fabrication environments where consistent hole quality in hard materials is required. The No. 11 wire size (0.1910 decimal inch, 4.85 mm) makes it a common selection for tapping and clearance hole work across a range of standard fastener sizes. It is appropriate for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held power drills where jobber-length geometry is specified.
Designed for use on primary workpiece material codes P (steel), K (cast iron), S (nickel alloy), and H (hard materials) as designated in the OSG Series 1950 product line. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or trade professional familiar with drill bit selection and machine tool operation. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in the drill chuck and verify runout before drilling. Always ensure the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent movement during cutting. Follow applicable shop safety standards and machine manufacturer guidelines for spindle speed and feed rate selection based on workpiece material.
