The OSG 8612271 is a jobber-length drill bit sized to wire gauge number 36, equivalent to 0.1065 inches (2.71 mm) in diameter. Built from powdered metal with a V coating, it is designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous and hard-to-machine materials. The bit features a 130-degree point angle with X-thinned web geometry for improved self-centering and reduced thrust. Overall length is 65 mm with a 33 mm flute length and a 3 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Two right-hand spiral flutes in a regular helix clear chips efficiently during blind hole, cross hole, and through-hole drilling operations. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance trades are the primary users of this bit.
This drill bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling into steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloys. It performs well in blind hole, cross hole, standard drilling, and self-centering applications where a compact jobber-length geometry is preferred over longer series bits. The Series 1950 designation places it within OSG's high-performance powdered metal line, intended for shops that require consistent tolerance and tool life across demanding materials. It is sold as a single bit per package.
Designed for use in drilling steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloy workpieces. Fits any standard drill chuck or collet accepting a 3 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Compatible with Series 1950 OSG tooling applications requiring wire-gauge sizing in the 0.1000 to 0.1500 inch decimal inch range.
This bit is installed by a machinist or maintenance technician into a compatible drill press, CNC machine, or hand drill with a matching chuck or collet. Ensure the machine is powered off and the spindle is fully stopped before changing tooling. Secure the shank firmly to minimize runout, which is critical at this small diameter to avoid bit deflection or breakage. Coolant-through is not supported; use external cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material when drilling alloy steel or nickel alloys.
