The OSG 8612249 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous and hard materials. Built from powdered metal (PM) with a V coating, this bit carries a 130-degree split-point geometry with X-thinned web, which reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust force at the cutting edge. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 3.00 mm in diameter, and the overall length is 62.00 mm, with a flute length of 30.00 mm. Two spiral flutes in a regular helix clear chips efficiently during right-hand cutting operations. Diameter tolerance is held to plus 0 to minus 0.014 mm, making this bit suitable for applications where hole location and size consistency matter. Licensed trade professionals and machining technicians are the primary installers.
This bit is rated for use in steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloy workpieces, covering primary workpiece material codes P, K, S, and H. Typical applications include blind hole drilling, cross hole drilling, general drilling, and self-centering starts. The X-thinned point reduces the need for a center punch in many setups. It is part of the OSG Series 1950 line, which targets high-performance cutting in challenging materials. Coolant-through capability is not included in this configuration. It fits standard drill chucks and collet systems that accept a 3.00 mm straight shank.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard jobber drill bit suitable for use in steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloy applications where a wire size 40 hole diameter is required.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists or trade professionals familiar with cutting tool setups. Secure the workpiece fully before beginning any drilling operation and confirm the spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material. Inspect the bit for chipping or wear before each use, as a damaged cutting edge increases the risk of bit breakage. Follow applicable shop safety standards and machine tool manufacturer guidelines for tooling changeouts.
