The OSG 8608913 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance metal cutting in demanding shop and field applications. Built from XPM high-speed steel with a coated finish, it features a 23/64 inch (0.3594 inch) diameter, a 130-degree drill point angle, and a right-hand spiral flute geometry. The shortened screw machine length body provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, reducing deflection and improving hole accuracy in production drilling scenarios. A tapered web with R-thinning reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation. This bit is installed by machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and maintenance technicians working with ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
The OSG 8608913 is suited for drilling steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloys in both manual and CNC drilling operations. The screw machine length format makes it a practical choice for turret lathes, drill presses, and machining centers where stub-length tooling is preferred for rigidity and clearance. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and confirm runout is within acceptable limits for the application. Always match spindle speed and feed rate to the workpiece material and drill diameter per standard machining data — do not exceed the rated capacity of the drill press or machining center. Wear appropriate PPE including eye protection when drilling metal. Inspect the cutting edges and coating condition before each use; a chipped or worn point should be resharpened or the bit replaced before continuing.
