The OSG 8608366 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous materials. It measures 0.144 inches (wire size No. 27) in diameter with a 130-degree split point and an XPM high-speed steel construction with a coated finish. The shortened screw machine length format provides increased rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, reducing deflection during entry. Two spiral flutes with a regular helix promote chip evacuation. A straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks. This bit is suited for machinists, tool-and-die techs, and maintenance tradespeople working on production or repair drilling operations.
The 8608366 is engineered for drilling steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloy workpieces. Its compact overall length of approximately 2.05 inches (52 mm) makes it well suited for drill press, CNC, and hand-held operations where clearance is limited. The X-thinned web reduces thrust force at the drill point, which is especially useful when drilling harder alloys. Flute length runs approximately 0.79 inches (20 mm), providing adequate chip clearance for the 3xD depth-to-diameter ratio this series is rated for.
Designed for drilling steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloy workpieces. Fits standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 4 mm (0.157 inch) straight shank. Part of OSG Series 1900 screw machine length drill bits covering the 0.1000 to 0.1500 inch diameter range.
Install and remove drill bits only with the spindle fully stopped and the machine powered down or locked out per applicable safety procedures. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a properly sized chuck or collet to prevent slippage under cutting load. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit; apply cutting fluid externally when drilling harder alloys to manage heat. Inspect the cutting edges and web for wear before each use and replace the bit when the point shows chipping or diameter undersize beyond tolerance.
