The OSG 8608193 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous materials. Built from XPM high-speed steel with an XPM coating, it delivers extended tool life in demanding production environments. The bit features a 130-degree drill point angle, a standard point type, and a right-hand spiral flute with X-thinned web geometry for improved chip evacuation and reduced thrust. At 0.076 inches (wire size No. 48) in diameter, it is well suited for close-tolerance drilling where consistent hole quality is required. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance mechanics are the primary installers.
This bit is intended for screw machine, CNC drilling, and general production drilling applications in steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloy workpieces. The short screw machine length body provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, reducing deflection in tight setups or multi-spindle machines. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collet holders across bench-top and floor-model drilling equipment. Coolant-through capability is not supported by this bit.
Primary workpiece materials include steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloy. Designed as an OSG Series 1900 screw machine length drill bit for production and general-purpose drilling in those material families.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a drill press, CNC machining center, or screw machine equipped with a compatible chuck or collet. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify runout is within acceptable tolerance for the application. Disconnect and lock out all power to the machine before changing or inspecting tooling. Do not exceed the recommended surface footage or feed rate for the workpiece material, as overloading a bit of this diameter can cause breakage.
