The OSG 8597511 is a jobber-length twist drill bit sized to wire gauge 7 (0.2012 inches / 5.11 mm diameter) with a 120-degree split-point (S-thinned) tip and a titanium nitride (TiN) coating over a vanadium high speed steel body. The TiN coating increases surface hardness and reduces friction, extending tool life in production drilling environments. The S-thinned web reduces thrust force at entry and improves self-centering without a center punch. With an overall length of 96 mm and a 52 mm flute length, this bit fits standard drill chucks via its 6 mm straight-cylindrical shank. It is installed and used by machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians running production or job-shop drilling operations.
This drill bit is suited for drilling blind holes, cross holes, and through holes in steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloys, and aluminum silicate. The regular spiral flute and right-hand cut geometry make it appropriate for general-purpose CNC and manual drilling in both production and maintenance applications. The Series 1600 designation places this bit in OSG high-performance catalog tooling. It is sold individually and is appropriate for use in machine tools, drill presses, and hand-held power drills with adequate speed and feed control.
Designed as a high-performance jobber-length drill bit compatible with steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces. Suitable for blind hole, cross hole, and self-centering drilling applications on CNC and manual machine tools. No coolant-through capability; external coolant or cutting fluid is recommended for extended run cycles.
A licensed machinist or qualified technician should secure the shank fully in a properly sized collet or drill chuck before operation. Ensure the machine spindle is stopped and power is locked out before changing or inspecting bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling steel or stainless steel to prevent overheating the tool. Match spindle speed and feed rate to the workpiece material and diameter to stay within the tool's rated performance range.
