The OSG 8597413 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for precision hole-making in a wide range of metallic workpieces. Manufactured from vanadium high speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, the bit delivers extended cutting life and reduced friction compared to uncoated HSS tooling. It measures 4.13 mm in diameter (0.1626 decimal inch) with a 120-degree drill point angle and an S-thinned point geometry that reduces thrust and promotes self-centering on entry. Overall length is 87 mm with a 43 mm flute length. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 6 mm in diameter, fitting standard drill chucks. This bit is suited for machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and metalworking tradespeople working on production or maintenance drilling operations.
The OSG 8597413 Series 1600 is rated for drilling steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate. Its regular spiral flute and two-flute configuration handle blind hole, cross hole, general drilling, and self-centering applications. The tapered web construction and S-thinned point reduce walking on entry without a center punch in many setups. This bit is appropriate for both manual drill press use and CNC machine tool applications where a jobber-length reach is sufficient for the workpiece depth.
Rated for use in steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces. Primary workpiece material codes P, M, and N per ISO classification. Designed as an OEM-style replacement or stock tooling selection within the OSG Series 1600 jobber drill line for the 4.00 mm to 5.00 mm diameter range.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a drill press, lathe tailstock, or CNC machining center with an appropriate drill chuck or collet sized for a 6 mm straight shank. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped before initiating a cut. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit; apply cutting fluid externally when drilling stainless steel or hard alloys to manage heat buildup. Inspect the cutting edges and TiN coating for wear before reuse to maintain hole tolerance.
