The OSG 8597232 is a jobber-length twist drill bit ground from vanadium high speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating. It carries a 2.32 mm (0.0913 inch) cutting diameter, a 130-degree split point with S-thinned web geometry, and a straight cylindrical shank. The TiN coating increases surface hardness and reduces built-up edge on difficult materials. The S-thinned point geometry promotes self-centering at entry, reducing the need for a center punch on most setups. Overall length is 59.00 mm (2.3228 inches) with a 27.00 mm (1.0630 inch) flute length. This bit is installed by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, maintenance mechanics, and metalworking professionals working on production or maintenance drilling operations.
The 8597232 is suited for drilling stainless steel, aluminum, and other non-ferrous materials in applications including blind hole drilling, cross hole drilling, through drilling, and self-centering entry cuts. The regular spiral flute and two-flute configuration support efficient chip evacuation in both ferrous and non-ferrous stock. It fits standard drill chucks accepting a 3 mm straight shank and works in benchtop drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held power tools where the chuck capacity allows.
Designed as an OSG Series 1600 jobber drill suitable for use in stainless steel, aluminum, and non-ferrous workpiece materials. Fits any standard drill chuck or collet accepting a 3 mm straight cylindrical shank.
This drill bit is installed and operated by machinists and metalworking technicians. Secure the shank fully in a properly sized chuck or collet before operation, and verify the spindle is stopped and power is off before changing tooling. Run at speeds and feeds appropriate for the workpiece material and machine type — consult published feeds-and-speeds data for HSS drills in stainless or aluminum. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit; apply cutting fluid externally when drilling stainless steel to manage heat and prevent work hardening.
