The OSG 8595328 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in metalworking applications. Built from high-speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended tool life and reduced friction during cutting. The bit features a 130-degree faceted point angle with web thinning for fast penetration and reduced thrust. At 3.28 mm in diameter with an overall length of 50 mm (1.9685 inches), it fits standard straight-cylindrical shank toolholders. The two-flute spiral design with a regular helix provides efficient chip evacuation in short-hole drilling operations. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance mechanics are the primary installers and operators of this bit.
This drill bit is suited for short-hole drilling in materials including steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate. The screw machine length format — shorter than jobber length — provides added rigidity and reduced deflection, making it well-suited for drill press, CNC machining center, and turret lathe applications where hole accuracy and repeatability are critical. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports chip clearance without sacrificing core strength.
Designed for use in standard straight-cylindrical shank toolholders; compatible with primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate as specified by OSG Series 1100.
This drill bit is installed and operated by machinists and toolroom technicians using drill presses, CNC machining centers, or manual lathes. Ensure the machine spindle and workpiece are properly secured before operation. Inspect the cutting edge and TiN coating for wear or chipping before each use; a damaged edge increases thrust load and reduces hole quality. Follow the machine manufacturer and tooling supplier recommendations for feed rate and spindle speed appropriate to the workpiece material.
