The OSG 8595173 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in metalworking and fabrication applications. Built from high speed steel with a coated finish, this bit measures 0.0681 inches (1.73 mm) in diameter and features a 140-degree faceted drill point optimized for accurate starting and reduced walking on hard materials. The overall length is approximately 1.69 inches (43 mm), and the straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.118 inches (3 mm) in diameter. Two spiral flutes with a regular helix provide efficient chip evacuation during cutting. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces cutting resistance and extends tool life. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and general fabricators are the primary installers of this bit.
This drill bit is suited for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand-held power tools where a short, rigid screw machine length is preferred over standard or jobber length bits. The Series 1100 designation places it within OSG's high-performance drill line. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports drilling in moderate-depth holes without chip packing. This size range targets precision work where tight diameter tolerances matter, with a drill bit diameter tolerance of plus 0 to minus 0.0006 inches (plus 0 to minus 0.014 mm).
Rated for drilling steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces. Fits any chuck or collet accepting a 0.118 inch (3 mm) straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or fabricators familiar with cutting tool safety practices. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation, and verify the spindle speed is appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter. Coolant through is not supported on this bit, so external cutting fluid or dry cutting practices should be applied as appropriate. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or excessive wear is observed.
