The OSG 8595172 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for short-hole drilling applications in metal fabrication, maintenance, and production environments. It measures 1.72 mm (0.0677 inches) in diameter with an overall length of 43 mm (1.6929 inches) and a flute length of 11 mm. The bit is manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating that extends tool life by reducing heat buildup and surface friction. A 140-degree faceted point geometry provides self-centering entry and reduces walking on harder materials. This bit is suited for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and handheld power tools by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance professionals.
The OSG 8595172 is rated for drilling steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate. Its screw machine length profile — shorter than jobber length — provides greater rigidity and reduced deflection in close-tolerance work. The 3.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank (0.1181 inches) fits standard collets and chucks. The Series 1100 designation places it in OSG's high-performance drill line. A 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports chip evacuation in short, blind, and through-hole applications common in sheet metal and precision part production.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting a 3.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for drilling steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces in production and maintenance machining applications.
Install this bit into a properly sized collet or drill chuck and verify the shank is fully seated before operating. Secure the workpiece in a vise or fixture to prevent movement during drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel or harder steel alloys to manage heat, as this bit does not support through-coolant. Inspect the cutting edges before each use — TiN-coated HSS bits should be replaced rather than reground to preserve coating integrity.
