The OSG 8595161 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for precision drilling in tight-clearance and high-cycle production environments. Built from high-speed steel with a coated finish, this bit measures 0.0635 inches (wire size 52) in diameter and features a 140-degree faceted point angle for improved centering and reduced thrust on entry. The shorter overall length of 1.65 inches (42 mm) provides added rigidity over jobber-length bits, making it well suited for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and screw machine operations where runout control is critical. Right-hand cut with a regular spiral flute, this bit carries a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration to aid chip evacuation and reduce walking on initiation.
This bit is intended for drilling steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces. The OSG Series 1100 falls in the high-performance grade category, making it appropriate for production shops, toolrooms, and maintenance operations requiring consistent hole quality at small diameters. The straight-cylindrical shank with a 0.118-inch (3 mm) diameter fits standard drill chucks and collet systems without modification. No coolant-through capability is present, so flood or mist coolant applied externally is recommended when drilling harder materials.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 0.118-inch (3 mm) straight-cylindrical shank. Rated for drilling steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpiece materials per OSG Series 1100 specifications.
Installation and use of small-diameter drill bits should be performed by machinists or qualified trades professionals operating properly maintained equipment. Secure the shank fully in a matched-size collet or drill chuck before initiating a cut, and confirm runout is within acceptable limits to avoid bit breakage at this diameter. At 0.0635 inches, feed rate and spindle speed selection are critical — consult published cutting data for the workpiece material. External flood or mist coolant is recommended when drilling steel or stainless steel to manage heat buildup in the absence of coolant-through capability.
