The OSG 8595109 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for precision drilling in metalworking and machining applications. Built from high speed steel with a coated finish, it measures 0.043 inches (Wire Size 57) in diameter with an overall length of approximately 1.535 inches and a flute length of approximately 0.276 inches. The 140-degree faceted drill point and web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduce entry force and improve chip evacuation. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks. This bit is suited for machinists, tool-and-die workers, and fabricators who require tight-tolerance holes in small-diameter applications.
Screw machine length drill bits are shorter and more rigid than jobber-length bits, making them well suited for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and turret lathes where rigidity and accuracy are priorities. The 8595109 is rated for drilling steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate. Its compact geometry is especially practical for close-tolerance work in production environments where runout and deflection must be minimized. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports efficient chip clearing in shallow to moderate depth holes.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks and collets accepting a 3.00 mm (approximately 0.118 inches) straight-cylindrical shank. Rated for drilling steel, stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpiece materials.
Secure the shank fully in a properly sized collet or drill chuck before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits for the application. Machinists should select appropriate cutting speeds and feeds for the workpiece material to avoid overheating the cutting edge. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit; apply cutting fluid externally when drilling stainless steel or deep holes in steel. Inspect the drill point for wear or chipping before each use, as small-diameter bits are susceptible to breakage under side load or misalignment.
