The OSG 84100523 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for high-precision finishing and light roughing in hard materials and steels. With a 1/4 inch mill diameter and a 1/4 inch length of cut, this stub-length tool delivers tight tolerances and controlled material removal in confined workspaces. The 20-degree low helix angle and DUROREY PVD coating work together to reduce heat buildup and extend tool life when cutting hardened steels and other demanding workpiece materials. The single-end, 2-flute configuration with right-hand cut and spiral flutes makes this mill well-suited for finishing passes requiring smooth surface finish and dimensional accuracy.
This end mill is intended for use on CNC machining centers and manual mills where hard material removal is required. The stub length format keeps the tool rigid and minimizes deflection during finishing operations in hardened steels or similarly tough alloys. The straight-cylindrical shank with a 1/4 inch diameter fits standard collets and end mill holders common in production and tool-and-die environments. Machinists working in aerospace, mold-and-die, and precision part manufacturing will find this tool appropriate for finish milling contoured surfaces and pockets where a ball nose profile is required.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard tooling selection for CNC machining centers and manual mills using 1/4 inch collets or end mill holders. Primary workpiece material compatibility is hard material and steel per OSG Series 8410 design specifications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following standard tooling and workholding procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, de-energized state before inserting or removing the end mill from the holder. Use a properly sized collet or end mill holder that matches the 1/4 inch shank diameter to prevent runout. Do not exceed the tool manufacturer's recommended cutting parameters for the workpiece material and coating type.
