The OSG 84100423 is a 2-flute solid carbide ball end mill designed for high-precision finishing in hard materials and steels. The mill features a 0.1875 inch (3/16 inch) cutting diameter, a 0.15 inch length of cut, and a 0.0938 inch nose radius that produces accurate ball-nose profiles. OSG applies a DUROREY PVD coating, which is engineered to extend tool life and maintain edge integrity when cutting hardened workpieces. The stub-length configuration and 0.2500 inch straight-cylindrical shank keep the tool rigid in close-quarters setups. This end mill belongs to the OSG Series 8410 and is intended for use by machinists and tooling professionals in CNC milling applications.
This tool is rated for hard materials as its primary workpiece category and steel as its secondary workpiece category. The stub length and low helix geometry suit it for high-hardness steel finishing passes where deflection control and surface finish are critical. It is a single-end, right-hand cutting, right-hand flute design with a helical flute type and no chipbreaker. The 2.5 inch overall length makes it compatible with standard toolholding setups. Typical applications include die and mold work, hardened steel contouring, and finish profiling in precision machining environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use tooling for CNC milling machines accepting a 0.2500 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece compatibility is hard materials and hardened steels per OSG Series 8410 specifications.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Seat the 0.2500 inch shank fully in a compatible toolholder and tighten to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as ball end mills in hard-material applications are sensitive to runout-induced edge chipping.
