The OSG 7813020 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for use in indexable face and shoulder milling applications. It features an SDMT square insert shape with a 90-degree included angle, four cutting edges, and a right-hand orientation. The insert carries a TiAlN coating applied via CVD process, delivering thermal resistance and wear protection in demanding cutting environments. At 0.1563 inches thick with a 0.0394-inch maximum depth of cut and a 0.0315-inch corner radius, this insert is engineered for consistent performance in medium to finish milling passes. It is installed and replaced by machinists and CNC operators working with compatible toolholders in the 78PHC cutter series.
This insert is suited for milling stainless steel as its primary workpiece material, with steel as a secondary material application. It uses a positive rake geometry with a chamfered and honed cutting edge style and a GM chip breaker configuration, which helps manage chip evacuation and reduce built-up edge when machining these materials. The insert is held in place by a screw clamp method, which is standard on most indexable milling bodies. It is a single-sided insert, meaning each of the four edges is used once before the insert is rotated or replaced. The 78PHC series compatibility makes it a direct fit for OSG tooling platforms designed around that cutter body family.

Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians using the appropriate torque screwdriver for the cutter body screw specification. Always power down and lock out the spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert. Do not mix insert grades or geometries within a multi-insert cutter body, as uneven cutting loads can damage the tool and workpiece.
