The OSG 650018711 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding metal-cutting applications. Built from solid carbide with a coated finish, this bit delivers superior wear resistance and heat management compared to high-speed steel alternatives. The 140-degree split point reduces walking and thrust load at entry, while the R-thinned web improves chip evacuation and cutting efficiency. At 3.150 inches overall length and 0.1875 inches (3/16 inch) diameter, it fits standard stub-length drilling setups. Coolant-through capability makes it compatible with CNC machining centers running high-pressure coolant systems. Licensed machinists and tooling professionals are the primary users.
This bit is suited for production and precision drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals including steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and titanium alloys. The screw machine (stub) length format provides added rigidity over jobber-length bits, reducing deflection in tight setups or when drilling on CNC lathes, machining centers, and drill presses. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and regular spiral type make it appropriate for through-hole and blind-hole work in medium to hard workpiece materials. It is sold individually as a single-piece unit.

Installation and tool changes should be performed with the machine in a fully powered-down, locked-out state per applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the straight shank fully and evenly in the collet or chuck before tightening to manufacturer-specified clamping torque for the holder type in use. When using coolant-through capability, verify that the coolant pressure and flow rate are within the limits recommended for the toolholder. Inspect the cutting edges and coating condition before each use and replace the bit if chipping or excessive wear is observed.
